The Tuwaiq escarpment (Jabal Tuwaiq) is a long limestone cliff that curves through central Saudi Arabia. Qiddiya is designed around it: the parks, the Speed Park and the planned stadium use the drop for views and for rides, most famously Falcons Flight, which plunges down the face of the cliff.

Where to see it

  • From the road: the drive out of Riyadh on Route 40 cuts down through the escarpment, a great first view.
  • Edge of the World: the most famous viewpoint, north-west of Riyadh. See our Edge of the World guide.
  • Inside Qiddiya: hiking trails and an eco district are part of the long-term plan.

Summer afternoons on the plateau are very hot. Go early, carry plenty of water and never go close to unfenced edges.
